Events of interest to Amnesty members and subscribers:
1) Â 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 at Lifelong, 119 W. Court St., Ithaca:
commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
This day was established in 2005 by the UN to remember millions of
European Jews, Roma, gays and lesbians, and other minority
populations exterminated under the Nazis during World War II.
There will be a short memorial program, then the film ³Sophie Scholl:
The Final Days² (about brave students resisting Hitler), followed by
a discussion of how we as individuals, working within our social
networks, can strive to prevent future acts of genocide.
Donations will be accepted to support the scholarship program for
Arab and Jewish Israeli children, kindergarten to seventh grade. The
children attend the bi-lingual, bi-cultural Neve Shalom/Wahat

2) Sun. Jan. 27, 4 pm in Sage Chapel, Cornell: Ben Chaney speaks on
“Give Truth a Chance.” Mr. Chaney is the brother of one of the three
civil rights workers murdered June 21, 1964 in Mississippi (James
Earl Chaney, Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman).
Theoir bodies were found forty-four days later. One of the
perpetrators was tried and convicted–41 years afterward.
Music by the Chosen Generation Gospel Choir and the Cornell Jazz Ensemble.
